Circus is coming to town…..

Sanger's Circus Late 19th Century

Sanger’s Circus Late 19th Century

We all know the names of The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.  They have been one of the biggest Circus troupes of all time.  They truly have an amazing history, particularly if you have a chance to read it in detail. From Wikipedia:

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is an American circus company billed as The Greatest Show on Earth. The company was started in 1919 when the circus created by James Anthony Bailey and P. T. Barnum was merged with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The Ringling brothers purchased the Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1907, but ran the circuses separately until they were finally merged in 1919.”

There were many circus acts before them, some quite spectacular in their own rights.  I have put together a collection of phots I have pulled from various sources. I hope you will enjoy!

As a side note, what circus is complete without freaks, I included some of them here.   It was hard for me to include these because of the obvious exploitation of these people.  On the other hand, their notoriety brought them a type of respect and fellowship which otherwise would they would not have had.

I included a lot of photos in this post, please enjoy each of them and let me know your favorites!

Preserving amatuer WWII photos

If you have seen our blog before, you know that we just love old  “stuff”!  In our many auctions and moves and relocations, we have been carting around this one box with old papers in it.  We have been carting it around for a couple of years now!  Recently, while going thru some things we started examining this box of “stuff”.  In our minds, we struck gold.  We found an envelope which contained several old negatives.  upon examining them we found out they are shots from Europe during WWII!

I have no idea who these gentlemen are, but I am familiar with what they went thru and what they were fighting for!  I want to share these images as a way of honoring not only these men, but all men and women who have fought on any side of any war!  War is such a terrible thing and while necessary sometimes, it is never something to be taken lightly!  I hope you enjoy these photos, I wish I could give you more information on them but everyone in them is probably passed on by now.

I love churches!  I have no partiality to size or architecture.  What the building is made of o how beautiful the architecture is, really is irrelevant. I feel most deeply immersed in the Holy Spirit when I am at church.

obsessed

For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with boxes.  It does not matter what kind, what they are made out of, or what size they are.  Basically if it can hold stuff and has a lid (preferable), then I love it!  I have boxes from all over the world and I have boxes that have traveled the world.  There is no end in sight to my obsession, well if “they” ever quit making boxes, then I guess I can stop! The collection I have now is of perfect specimens for display, storage or organization!

I cannot keep them all so here you go:
